Thinking about research in sensors, robotics and electronics? Join our lab.

Our group ( harnettlab.org ) seeks a Fall 2024 incoming PhD student interested in doing hands-on experimental work in soft robotics and fabric with embedded sensors and actuators. We are well equipped for both microfabrication and digital fabrication with fibers (specifically large format computerized embroidery and weaving). The PhD student will receive a $24k annual stipend from a teaching assistantship or competitive research fellowship, plus full tuition and health benefits.

Students with a Masters in electrical engineering, natural sciences (physics/chemistry), robotics, textile engineering, or mechanical engineering are sought. This is an experimental project with some modeling and design aspects, but the main focus is hands-on lab work and data collection. We seek someone who will stay in the area during the entire degree program and carry out lab work in person.

If you are interested and able to meet these requirements, or simply want to find out more, fill out this form with the “Graduate Student” option by  December 15, 2023.
